Urban Woodlands Conservation and Restoration

Urban Woodland Workshop participants include representatives from the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Appalachian LCC, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, New York City Parks, New York Botanical Garden, University of Maryland, and Rutgers University. The goal is to identify and create opportunities for greater collaboration among urban woodland managers and researchers to connect and to share data and information.

Urban Woodland Conservation and Management Workshop, March 11, 2015 at NCTC

Goal

Identify and create opportunities for greater collaboration among urban woodland managers and researchers to connect and to share data and information.

Objectives

1.  Ascertain the environmental and ecological effects of urban land use on urban woodlands and identify gaps in our understanding

2.  Establish conservation and restoration goals for urban, suburban, and exurban woodlands under climate change

3.  Identify long-term data and tools needed to restore and manage urban woodland ecosystems
